Patrons who fail to follow the Library Rules and engage in activities not permitted in the library and on library grounds will be spoken to and asked to correct their behavior. Repeated failure to follow the rules may result in the following actions:
At the discretion of the Director and in consultation with library supervisors repeat offenders may be banned from the library for varying lengths of time, from one week to several months to permanently, depending upon the severity of the misconduct. Any individual subject to disciplinary action may appeal the decision of the Director to the Library Trustees. The Library Trustees require that all appeals be in writing. The individual may request a meeting in person with the Library Trustees.
- An individual's library privileges may be restricted. The restrictions may include limitations to: a) specific areas in the library, b) specific computers and other library equipment, c) shorter times than the rules allow in study rooms and on equipment, d) borrowing fewer items than the rules allow.
- An adult may be banned from using the library and library equipment and resources until the individual has met with the Library Director. Future use will be contingent upon the individual abiding by the conditions agreed to with the Director.
- A minor may be banned from using the library and library equipment and resources until a parent or legal guardian and the minor meet with the Library Director. Future use will be contingent upon the minor abiding by the conditions agreed to with the Director. If the minor violates the agreement the parent or legal guardian will be contacted and informed of the possible consequences of further violations.
- The Waltham Police may be contacted and a formal no trespassing notice taken out against the individual. If the individual is observed inside the library or on library grounds, in violation of the no trespassing notice, the individual may be arrested.
